Scholarship Announcement

For Native American/ Alaskan Natural Resource Students
 

 

Award:        $2000 for college students (numbers of awards varies per year)

                      $1,500 for graduating senior high school students

Purpose:    The Truman D. Picard Scholarship Program is dedicated to the support of Native American students pursuing a higher education in Natural Resources.

Required Material:    The Education Selection Committee will review  and rank only those applicants who completely address if available, and phone number. It should be a maximum of two pages in length, and discuss the following:

1.   Letter of Application: The letter must include your name, permanent mailing address, email

        A.    Interest in natural resources

        B.    Commitment to education , community and your culture

        C.    Financial need. Students who have completed the Free Application   

               for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should attach the Student Aid

               Report or have the report sent to the ITC office.

2.    Resume

3.    Three signed letters of reference, preferably on letterhead.

4.    Evidence of validated enrollment in a federally recognized tribe or Alaska Native Corporation, as established by the U.S. Government.  A photocopy of your enrollment card, front and back, will suffice.

5.    Transcripts: ALL students must include transcripts.

            - High school student must also provide documented proof of acceptance to an institution of higher education.

            - College students must also provide proof of their declared major.

The Intertribal Timber Council (ITC) has cooperative financial aid agreements with the University of Washington and Salish Kootenai College. Recipients of the ITC Truman Picard Scholarship are eligible to receive additional scholarships including tuition waivers. Native American Heritage Celebration
Student Essay Contest

"Native American Voices of Oklahoma"

 

The Native American Heritage Celebration Committee cordially invites you to participate in an essay contest. Students in grades 6th through 12th are invited to submit a 200 word essay relating to the theme, "Native American Voices of Oklahoma".

Eligibility: Students in grades 6-12 that are Indian, or participate in Title VII and/or Johnson O'Malley programs.

Entries: All entries are to be postmarked by November 3, 2008. Please provide two copies of the entry. Mail entries to the Indian Education Program, 215 N. Blvd. Edmond, OK 73034.

Criteria: Essays will be based on relationship to theme, originality, and composition. type and double-space the essay with one-inch margins. the committee will copy the entries as written and may copy them for distribution in a booklet. The committee will consist of educators and teachers. Please provide student information with the essay, It should include: Student Name, Address and Phone, School, Grade, plus Sponsor information.

Winners will be notified and awards will be presented at the Native American Heritage Celebration on Monday, November 17th, in the Rotunda at the Sate Capitol. The winner will be expected to read their essay. Cash awards and certifications will be given for the first, second, and third places.
