Watonga Elementary

"Where the Tradition Begins"

Guidance and Counseling Program

At Watonga Elementary, one very important part of our curriculum includes the teaching of character traits with our Character Counts Program in order to strengthen our students' self-esteem, personal responsibility and decision making skills, and to develop the moral convictions to withstand undesirable peer pressure.

“Character Counts” in: personal relationships, school, the workplace, in life – Who you are, makes a difference.

Character is not hereditary, nor does it develop automatically

Character must be consciously developed by example and demand.

There are enduring, universal moral truths – principles which distinguish right from wrong and define the essence of good character.

Character Counts teaches youth these positive character traits which can make them better students and more successful at school. With the cooperation of parents, teachers, local organizations and businesses, it is Watonga Elementary’s mission is to build a Character Counts school and community.

Throughout the year, I will be providing guidance lessons and activities covering developmental issues which are common to elementary students, such as getting along with others, making friends, solving problems, effective communication, resolving conflicts, study skills, peer pressure, responsibility, and decision making.

I look forward to a great year. If you have any questions or concerns call me at 623-5248.

Let’s work together for the welfare of our children!
